New Movies and TV Shows on Disney+

Still too cold to go outside much? Here are some of our top selections of the new content coming to Disney+ this month.

So get cozy, brew some cocoa, and settle in with some movies you may have missed in the theaters, or TV shows you need to catch up on!  Viewers will get a little bit of Star Wars at the start of Feb. The Book of Boba Fett will air two episodes, with the season finale of the show airing on February 9. Other than that, however, there are no big franchise releases due until Moon Knight at the end of March.

So what else has Disney+ got to offer? The month's biggest release is The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder, a reboot of the Disney Channel animation that first ran from 2001 to 2005 that brings Penny Proud (voiced by Kyla Pratt) into the 2020s.

All the TV Shows and Movies Streaming

Disney+ has managed to attract big streaming numbers with its Marvel and Star Wars shows – but February's list of what's coming to the service shows that they do not have much else to offer subscribers other than those two tentpoles.

The Book of Boba Fett, Chapters 6 & 7

Is it even modern Star Wars if it isn’t deeply divisive among the fan base? The Book of Boba Fett concludes its first season this month, wrapping up (for now?) the stories of Boba Fett, Fennec Shand, and a whole host of other characters, some more familiar to us than others. We won’t get Obi-Wan Kenobi until May 25, so enjoy this Tattooine content while you can!

Never Been Kissed

Well, new to Disney+, if not exactly “new.” First hitting theaters in 1999, this Drew Barrymore romcom tells the story of copy editor, Josie Geller, who has never really gotten over not being “cool” in high school. Classic 90s romcom hijinks ensue. Not everything about this movie holds up in 2022, but if you’re looking for something sweet around Valentine’s Day, give Never Been Kissed a shot. Come for the excellent high school dance outfits, stay for the Big Romantic Finale set to The Beach Boys.

Marvel Studios: Assembled

Premiering in March 2021, Marvel Studios: Assembled is an anthology offering in-depth, behind-the-scenes looks at the making of its original shows and movies. Previous episodes have included discussions ranging from composers Robert Lopez and Kristin Anderson-Lopez on WandaVision to the unique casting challenges of What If…? February 9’s episode will focus on Hawkeye and February 16 will get into the vast world of the Eternals.

The Wonderful Winter of Mickey Mouse

This animated special is the first in a series of upcoming The Wonderful World of Mickey Mouse specials centered around the seasons. If you haven’t checked them out yet, The Wonderful World of Mickey Mouse series is a delightful, bite-sized means of checking back in with your favorite Disney characters. The Wonderful Winter special will give us a glimpse into what Mickey and his friends do when the temperature outside starts dropping. Expect snowy shenanigans.

The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder

It’s finally time to catch up with Penny Proud! According to the Disney+ press release, we can expect “new career highs for mom Trudy, wilder dreams for dad Oscar, and new challenges for Penny.” Featuring the amazing original voice cast of this beloved animated series, this highly anticipated reboot promises to be a great time for fans old and new alike.

The Best Superhero TV Shows From Disney Plus

For over two years now, Disney+ has streamed many of their beloved movies and TV shows from across every company they own. Whether it be a classic Disney princess movie, or a fantastical sci-fi film from the Star Wars universe, or even any of the action-packed Marvel movies and shows, there are tons of options to choose from.

Apart from that, the February 2022 Disney+ line-up is a pretty sparse affair. Other movie releases include 2002 husky comedy Snow Dogs, the 1999 Drew Barrymore film Never Been Kissed and Torn, a new film about a family who go to the Himalayas to uncover their son's body 17 years after he died in a climbing album.

Also streaming is the second of four Mickey Mouse specials themed around the seasons titled The Wonderful Winter of Mickey Mouse, a documentary about the making of the movie Eternals, and another that takes viewers inside the new Air Force One.  Lately, Disney has begun using the platform to create their own television series. These originals aren’t available anywhere else, and are often showing audiences the return of fan-favorite characters, creating new characters for everyone to fall in love with, or even a combination of both.

What If…?

Marvel’s What If…? was a surprising change of pace for the studio in the summer of 2021. Over the course of 9 episodes, the narrator known as the Watcher takes the audience through different universes in the multiverse. These universes pose questions like “What if T’Challa became a Star-Lord?” and answers them with depictions as if they were true. However, the through-line here is that the Watcher’s one vow is that he cannot interfere with the universes, no matter how much he may want to. This grows harder and harder for him to do as a growing threat plans to harm the multiverse.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier brought some fan favorites back to the screen, as none other than Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes teamed up for this six-episode show. After the events of Avengers: Endgame, the Captain America mantle was passed onto Sam Wilson. However, he didn’t feel like he was the one who could fill those shoes, so Sam and Bucky reluctantly team up to stop a new threat that’s surfaced and come to face their new role in society.

Ever since Avengers: Endgame retired several of the original Avengers, finding ways to write them out of the story, it left audiences wondering what would happen to Sam and Bucky since Steve Rogers, a friend to both, was now gone. The show almost feels like a buddy-cop movie as Sam and Bucky butt heads often while working together, just as they always have. It also focuses on a lot of heavy, relevant topics in today's society, and proves that Sam is worthy of the Captain America mantle.

Agent Carter

A prominent figure in the first Captain America film is Peggy Carter, the love interest of the movie and also one of the few women we see in the military. In 2015, Marvel Studios decided to produce a TV show around her and dubbed it Agent Carter. The two-season show follows Peggy around post-World War II, struggling to work in the USSR while most of her coworkers believe she is incapable of much as a woman. Peggy might not be a superhero herself in this universe, but she still worked with many unbelievable things, met some familiar comic book faces like Howard Stark, and did have a villain who had powers at one point. While airing, the show earned critical acclaim, and was loved by fans while it lasted. Sometimes, you just need to root for the underdogs.

Marvel shows will leave the service at the end of the month as the rights revert back to Disney

Netflix's original Marvel series were a product of Marvel's TV division, which was folded into the Marvel Studios film unit in late 2019 as Disney was preparing to launch its own streaming platform, Disney+, that November. Disney had also ended a licensing deal with Netflix.

The titles will be leaving Netflix after February 28, as the rights have reverted back to Marvel's parent company Disney, a person with direct knowledge confirmed to Insider. It put Marvel's TV plans under the supervision of Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, who had been named Marvel's creative chief in October of 2019.

Since then, Disney+ has launched several Marvel Studios TV shows that tie directly into the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe. The studio has also planted the seeds for the Netflix shows to be folded more directly into the MCU.
